We are building a house with local materials. For insulation, we are using something called light straw clay. This is a mix of straw, clay, and water packed into temporary forms to take the place of synthetic insulation. It is a fun and messy process made even more enjoyable with a group!
This Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. we’ll be opening up for a work day. This is a chance to come, get your hands dirty, and learn about this sustainable, alternative insulation method. See details below.
Details
The institute is in Cooksville, Wisconsin. We’re a 30-minute drive south out of Madison. Exact directions will be provided to volunteers.
We’ll provide all the needed tools, but please bring work gloves, close-toed shoes, and maybe something to keep your hair covered (bandana, hat, etc.). We’ll have water and snacks, and will have a vegetarian soup to share for lunch, but feel free to bring more along for yourself or to share.
