Canadians (and a few lucky others) will know Rick Mercer as a fixture on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Made in Canada, This Hour Has 22 Minutes). His current show, the Rick Mercer Report, sends him exploring across the country. This last week, he was in Haida Gwaii on the Pacific Coast, showcasing a little Haida woodworking and boatcraft.
Woodworking in this area stretches back thousands of years and is not only rich in technique but also iconography. The bent box seen here — made out of a single plank of wood — has a corner joint I’ve never seen before and is definitely worth some exploration in future projects. Enjoy!
