Come Learn to Split Beehives This Weekend: 3 p.m. Saturday

I’ve been splitting hives since I started keeping bees 4 years ago and I’m still on my original line of bees (meaning I bought one nuc four years ago and am still going).

This Saturday afternoon at 3:00 P.M. I’m going to start splitting my hives. The weather is cool, but I don’t want to wait much longer.

QueenCellsYou’re welcome to join me and I’ll show you how I make a split of a strong hive by removing the queen and some frames of brood and honey, leaving the queenless hive to raise new queens (a week later I’ll split this hive out into a few more nucs; I’ll talk about this Saturday, too).

From Madison, come south on Hwy 14. Turn left on State Road 59 and follow it into Cooksville. Turn right at the church on Tolles Road and then left on Church Street. At the top of the hill on the left is the back of my property, where I’ll put out beehives so you know where to come in. Park on the side of the road, please. Here’s a pin in google maps.
If you can’t make it, here are the rough instructions in Part 1 and Part 2img_3827.
